The Residency, also known as the British Residency or Residency Complex, is a historic protected monument in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Built between 1780 and 1800, the complex served as the residence of the British Resident General in Awadh. It became the centre of the famous Siege of Lucknow during the uprising of 1857 and suffered extensive damage from artillery and fighting. Today, the surviving ruins, gardens, memorials and museum preserve an important chapter of India's freedom struggle. The complex contains historic buildings, damaged walls, underground structures, churches, graves and the 1857 Memorial Museum, making it one of Lucknow's most significant heritage attractions.
