Sanchi Stupa is one of India's most important Buddhist heritage sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Great Stupa was originally commissioned by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century BCE and the complex later developed into a remarkable group of stupas, temples, monasteries and intricately carved gateways.
