The Golden Temple, officially known as Sri Harmandir Sahib, is one of India's most revered Sikh religious sites and the spiritual center of Sikhism. Located in the heart of Amritsar, the temple stands in the middle of the sacred Amrit Sarovar (holy pool). The present structure was rebuilt and expanded over several centuries, with the upper portions famously covered in gold during the reign of Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the early 19th century. The complex is renowned for its stunning architecture, peaceful atmosphere, sacred pool, continuous recitation of Gurbani, and the Guru Ka Langar, one of the world's largest community kitchens serving free meals to visitors regardless of religion or background.
