Ellora Caves are one of India's greatest rock-cut architectural achievements and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located about 30 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, the complex contains 34 major rock-cut caves created between approximately the 6th and 10th centuries CE. The caves represent three major religious traditionsโBuddhism, Hinduism, and Jainismโmaking Ellora an exceptional example of India's religious and cultural diversity. The most famous monument is Kailasa Temple (Cave 16), an enormous temple carved entirely out of a single rock and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Its monumental sculptures and detailed carvings make Ellora one of India's must-visit heritage destinations.
