Victoria Memorial is one of Kolkata's most iconic landmarks and a magnificent example of Indo-Saracenic Revival architecture. Built in memory of Queen Victoria, the monument was conceived by Lord Curzon and constructed between 1906 and 1921. Made primarily of white Makrana marble, the grand complex combines British, Mughal, Venetian, Egyptian, and Deccani architectural influences. Today, the Victoria Memorial houses a museum containing paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, historical documents, coins, weapons, and other objects related to India's colonial and cultural history. Its surrounding gardens are also a major attraction.
