The Jagannath Temple is one of India's most important Hindu pilgrimage sites and one of the Char Dham pilgrimage destinations. The present temple was constructed in the 12th century by King Anantavarman Chodaganga Deva of the Eastern Ganga dynasty. Dedicated to Lord Jagannath, along with Balabhadra and Subhadra, the temple is renowned for its distinctive Kalinga architecture, massive Nilachakra, and the annual Rath Yatra, which attracts millions of devotees. The temple complex contains numerous shrines and is also famous for its traditional Mahaprasad.
