Bara Imambara, also known as Asafi Imambara, is one of Lucknow's most important historic monuments. Built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula, the monument was constructed during a period of famine as a major employment and relief project. The complex includes the magnificent Asfi Mosque, the famous Bhul Bhulaiya labyrinth and the Shahi Baoli stepwell. Its enormous central hall is renowned for its impressive vaulted construction without supporting beams, while the monument's architecture reflects the distinctive Nawabi and Indo-Islamic heritage of Lucknow.
