📖 About

The Ajanta Caves are among India's most celebrated archaeological treasures and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located about 100 km from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (formerly Aurangabad), the caves were carved between the 2nd century BCE and the 6th century CE into a horseshoe-shaped cliff overlooking the Waghora River. The complex consists of 30 rock-cut Buddhist caves, including monasteries (Viharas) and prayer halls (Chaityas), renowned for their exquisite murals, sculptures, and frescoes depicting the life of Lord Buddha and Jataka tales. The Ajanta Caves are considered masterpieces of ancient Indian art and architecture and attract visitors from around the world.
